Description
Dutchman boom brakes allow the boom to be easily controlled from the cockpit, without the need to go forward to set up or change over a preventer. If an accidental jibe does occur, the brake will dissipate the shock load, and keep the boom from flying across. The brake can then be released, allowing the boom to move at a controlled rate, all from the safety of the cockpit.

Specifications
The BB250B, 500B and 750B indicate becket style brakes with an additional shackle secured to the bottom of the brake. They are typically used on boats with 'soft' vangs, and allow the brake to be fastened to the vang attachment point on the boom, while the vang is attached to the shackle on the bottom of the brake.
The BB250, 500 and 750 are typically used with rigid vangs, where they are fitted just behind the rigid vang, or in a soft vang application where there are 2 attachment points on the boom. They would also be used if the boat does not have nor intends to add a vang. Normally, we recommend the brake be fitted with a vang, so the boom is held down when the brake is released for jibing. However, it is not essential to have a separate vang. The brake can be used as the vang.
