SOLAS Flare Approval
SOLAS (Safety Of Life At Sea) is a standard for pyrotechnic signaling devices – a standard that must be met by commercial vessels, as well as Offshore Racing Council (ORC) and U.S. Sailing competitors. They meet a visibility standard far higher than "USCG-approved." Put bluntly, you should have nothing else on board. For reliability, brightness, altitude, and burn time, they are far better than any non-SOLAS flare. You should always look for SOLAS approved flares.
