This socks bottom is cushioned and the top is relatively thin. However, the wicking ability of the exceptional SmartWool fibers surrounds the entire foot, and an innovative arch brace keeps the sock from creeping while supplying additional underfoot support. This sock has ample cushioning for extended trips but is not so bulky that it's out of the question for day to day. Looking beyond the cushioning, the SmartWool fibers play a major role in the comfort experience. These fibers are extremely small, with a diameter much smaller than a human hair. This makes for a very soft sock, a feeling that is very inviting to the feet the moment you slip them on. The SmartWool fibers also move moisture at a phenomenal rate, wicking away perspiration vapor before it has a chance to turn to a liquid. Another important comfort advantage of the sock is the supportive arch brace. Heavy full cushioning surrounds the foot, a nice buffer to have when wearing the heavier, stiffer footwear usually associated with extended excursions. The SmartWool fibers also have a lot to do with the fabulous comfort experienced in this sock. They have a very small micron diameter, between one-tenth and one-third the size of a human hair, making for a very soft, comfortable feel. And equally important, these same fibers move perspiration moisture at a fast clip, even while still in the vapor stage so the feet stay dry throughout the day.
