ACR GlobalFix iPro (2846) When submerged in water between 5-13 ft. (1.5 - 4 m), the HydroFix will disengage the rod allowing the Category 1 bracket to release the EBIRB.
ACR has designed a patent pending release rod system, which does not depend on a battery, sharp blade, or a pyrotechnic device to release the beacon.
Designed to work with ACR's Open Face, Sea Shelter and Sea Shelter2 brackets.
This advantage allows ACR to offer an HRU that is individually tested to ensure that the HydroFix is the most reliable HRU in an emergency situation.

Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro, east coast of Italy, Albania by Trevor & Dinah Thompson The standard guide to Croatia and the neighbouring countries Slovenia, Montenegro and Albania, Adriatic Pilot now celebrates 20 years of publication. Adriatic Pilot also provides coverage of the eastern coast of Italy and is the only guide to the Venice Lagoon and harbours adjacent to Istria. At present no other guide covers the entire region in a single volume in English, and Trevor and Dinah Thompson's well researched work provides all the essential navigational information for yachtsmen visiting the area. This 5th edition has been thoroughly revised from visits by the authors during 2006 and 2007. Technical information has been updated and details of new marinas and their facilities with revised harbour plans and many new photographs make the edition significantly different from the last. The well-regarded charts at the introduction to each section are now cross-referenced to the larger scale plans in the text and page referencing is more comprehensive. Each coastal section is now colour coded and identifiable by colour tabs and this also improves navigation around the book. Hard cover, 8 1/2"" x 12"", 444 pgs. Lost at Sea - ISBN:0618257322
by Steven Callahan A New York Times bestseller for 36 weeks, Steven Callahan's harrowing story chronicles one of the most astounding voyages of the century and one of the great sea adventures of all time. An undeniable classic, Adrift is a riveting first-hand account by the only man known to have survived for more than a month alone at sea, fighting for his life in an inflatable raft after his small sloop capsized only six days from port. Racked by hunger, buffeted by storms, scorched by the tropical sun, Callahan drifted for 1800 miles, fighting off sharks with a makeshift spear and watching as nine ships passed him by. ""A real human drama that delves deeply into man's survival instincts"" (Library Journal), it is a story of anguish and horror, of undying heroism, hope, and survival, and a must-read for any adventure lover. Bluewater Cruising - What you need to know for safe, comfortable passages under sail by Hal Sutphen
Cruising Rally Association A new ocean cruising handbook, Advanced Bluewater Cruising provides a comprehensive guide for coastal cruising sailors wishing to make the step up to ocean cruising. In an easy-to-use format, Advanced Bluewater Cruising first outlines key differences between coastal and offshore cruising, offers some sound criteria for selecting a boat, and presents the pros and cons of major equipment options. Following chapters include such practical topics as voyage planning, fear as a guide to action, the skipper as leader, crew responsibilities and routines, watchstanding, managing personal affairs (mail, money, bills, emergency contacts), provisioning, stowage and cooking, medical preparedness and more. The weather and up-to-the-minute communications sections will help in interpreting weather systems and in using today's onboard communications tools to get the best forecast information. Sail selection, care and trim chapters will prove useful both before and during ocean passages. The first two-thirds of the book set forth practical steps to successful passagemaking under sail. The remaining third presents methods of coping with adversity in various forms: heavy weather, illness and injury, dismasting, fire, flooding, with specific sections on troubleshooting your engine, your steering and your electrical system. Illustrated, and with radio frequency lists, watchstanding schedule options, medical prescription information and more. T ransmitter - Alone in the cockpit or on deck at night, who hasn't imagined what would happen if we somehow went overboard? Even if you're tethered, could you pull yourself back aboard while the boat kept sailing? Or arouse the sleeping crew? Here's a product that will make those nightmares go away. The ALERT 2 System consists of a water-activated radio transmitter, which begins to transmit a unique 418 MHz signal upon total immersion. A receiver sits aboard the boat, and it howls like mad when it receives the unique signal. It also has the ability to shut down the engine and mark a position on a compatible GPS or Loran (with the PC Interconnect Kit). The transmitter works with just two lithium batteries. The receiver wires in to your vessels 12 volt system. For short-handed offshore sailors, this device could be a real life saver. New Features:
Connects to GPS or Engine shutdown

by Peter Carey & Craig Franklin For many people, an Antarctic cruise is the dream of a lifetime. This is the definitive field guide to Antarctica for visitors travelling by luxury liner, adventure cruise, or private boat. The authors are recognised world experts in Antarctic travel, wildlife, and conservation, and the book is illustrated throughout with outstanding colour photographs. Included are descriptions of the 26 most popular visitor sites on the Antarctic Peninsula, and the natural history of over 30 species of birds and mammals. Special attention is paid to explaining the threats to Antarctic conservation, including global warming, and there are tips on how visitors can minimise their own impact and help preserve this unique continent. Measuring 5 x 7 inches, this beautiful little book fits neatly into a parka pocket and is fully illustrated with over 200 colour photographs and seven maps.

One evening: 3 hours
Anchor as though you plan to stay for weeks even if you’re intending to leave in an hour.
Course Overview
Even heavily populated areas like the NY Metro region have many unspoiled bays and coves just waiting to take you away from the everyday grind. Beyond the sheer enjoyment of swinging at anchor in a secluded cove, the skill of securely connecting your boat to the bottom has some important safety implications. Knowing how to anchor your boat under any conditions in any anchorage can save you from running aground in bad weather or due to engine failure. Dropping the right anchor to make your boat secure is what you need for a good night’s rest away from the crowds.

""A good sextant
at a great price!"" - The Astra IIIB sextant incorporates all of the features of high-end German and Japanese sextants, at about one third of their cost. But make no mistake: it is a very accurate instrument of very high quality. How does Astra do it? First of all, its made in China, where labor rates are vastly lower than in Germany or Japan. Second, they use an aluminum alloy for the frame (as does Freiberger and C. Plath in its lightweight sextants). As a result, there is a very minor sacrifice in potential accuracy (+ or - 20 seconds throughout the arc, compared with 9 seconds for the Cassens & Plath), which is likely to be completely inconsequential when taking sights from a moving small yacht. The Astra IIIB is, in fact, used by many professional navigators.
The Astra features a rectangular index mirror, available with either a traditional half-silvered (split) or whole (full) horizon versions. The mirrors are easily interchanged, so if you dont know which to choose, start with the whole horizon type. Its a little easier for beginners to use, and you can always change it later. Other features include LED lighting of arc and drum, oil, adjusting wrench, and instructions, all in a varnished wooden case. A 3.5 x 40 scope is standard. We can recommend the Astra IIIB Deluxe to all navigators and especially to those beginning to learn celestial without reservation. Its a bargain.

(click image to enlarge) Before the development of the Imray-Iolaire chart series, navigation information for the Eastern Caribbean had been generally poor with chart coverage haphazard and no single authority providing complete coverage of harbors and anchorages suitable for cruisers. Most official charts are based on nineteenth century surveys and have too little updated information. The Imray-Iolaire series meets the growing demand for a standardized series of charts for the Caribbean Sea. For this Caribbean series, Imray has enlisted the aid of the well known Donald Street Jr. who has spent over thirty years chartering, cruising and exploring in Iolaire, his 93 year old engineless wooden Yawl. He has taken his unique knowledge of the passages, harbors, and anchorages, from Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgins in the north to the Venezuelan coast in the south, and applied it to these charts. His cruising guides are the definitive text for cruisers in the area. Imray-Iolaire charts are printed in color and published in two standard sizes, 640 x 900 cm (25"" x 35.5"") and 640 x 450 cm (25"" x 17.75""). Extra information for the cruiser has been incorporated using official surveys, Street's own experience, and, in particular, notes and surveys regarding passages and anchorages, including details of facilities for voyagers. Each chart has large scale inserts of the various important harbors and anchorages. Atlantic Islands E1-4

Azores, Madeira Group, Canary Islands and Cape Verdes by Anne Hammick The only single volume guide to the area, the Royal Cruising Club's Atlantic Islands provides detailed pilotage with the support of accurate charts and aerial photographs. The fourth edition contains numerous routine revisions based on Anne Hammicks explorations during 1998. Imray Chart (100) - aka: Atlantic Routeing Chart
NA100 At a scale of 1:7,620,000 this chart covers the North Atlantic from Brazil to Newfoundland and Gibraltar to the Caribbean. Interestingly it has been constructed on a conical projection which means that Great Circle tracks can be plotted as straight lines rather than curves. The chart shows the main trend of contours, limits of ice, magnetic variations and keys routes as identified by D M Street. On the reverse are notes on the routes and small wind rose charts, with accompanying charts showing excessive wave heights and storm frequencies for the months that yachts cross the Atlantic: April to July and October to December. Chart 100 will be an important companion for Atlantic Yachtsmen on passage and an excellent source of planning information. |,|$49.99$|,|Home > Nautical Charts > Paper Charts > Imray - Iolaire > |,|00100|,|$URL$00100.html|,|http://ep.yimg.com/ip/I/landfallnav_2062_29826407||-||Atlantic Spain and Portugal - 5th Ed.|,|^|Atlantic Spain and Portugal - 5th Ed. - Atlantic Spain

La Corua to Gibraltar by Martin Walker and Anne Hammick Covers Cabo Sao Vincente to Gibraltar. The fifth edition of this pilot has been completely redesigned to incorporate the clearer layout and use of color that is being introduced into all the RCC's pilots. There are more coastal plans and these are used to display approach and entrance waypoints. Since the last edition facilities for yachts have been improved dramatically, particularly in Galicia, and the text has been thoroughly updated accordingly. This new edition incorporates Patrick Roach's latest aerial photography. Hardbound. 8.5"" x 12"". 336 pgs. (SOS Model #38ARK) for the #SAUTO and #SHAUTO inflatables The manual-inflation SOSpenders, like the AirForce inflatables, are USCG-approved Type III PFDs. To be perfectly honest, they're of equal quality, specs, and features, but in terms of design there's one big difference: the SOSpenders are quite a bit shorter than the AirForce models, and therefore fit a little better if you're going to be sitting on the rail for a long time. For ""railmeat"" purposes, we recommend the SOSpenders. Navy blue. ""SOSpenders #""

Many people understand the concepts but few have the information to make their boating experience worry free.
Batteries do not make electricity; they store it, just as a water tank stores water for future use. As chemicals in the battery change, electrical energy is stored or released.
Learn from the best: Jack Csenge, founder and former owner/operator of Jack Rabbit Marine, Inc.. This fast-paced workshop is short on theory and long on practical guidance covering operation, maintenance and trouble-shooting your marine battery needs. This class focuses on do-it-yourself maintenance, what you need to be worry free and basic trouble-shooting.
