The Garmin GPS 72 is a low-cost solution for marine navigation designed to provide precise GPS positioning using correction data obtained from the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS). The Garmin GPS72 can provide position accuracy to less than 3 meters when receiving WAAS corrections! A suitable replacement for the popular GPS 12, the GPS72 offers a large 4 level grayscale screen and a dedicated GOTO button. The GPS 72 provides 1 megabyte of internal user memory to be used for storing downloaded points of interest data. This 1 megabyte of storage area is preloaded from the factory with worldwide cities (populations greater than 200.000) and nautical navigation aids such as lights, buoys, sound signals and day beacons. The Garmin GPS72 is also preloaded with tide data for the United States.
The GPS72 differs from the GPS76 in the following ways:
Lower screen resolution GPS72 (120 x 160) vs. GPS76 (180 x 240) pixels
The GPS72 does not accept an external antenna
GPS72 has a black case; the GPS76 is white
PC interface cable is optional with the 72 and is included with the 76
