Jim Howard's book is another excellent firsthand guide to long-distance cruising. It has a great chapter on heavy weather, an unusual and excellent chapter on storm preparation in port, and a section on money management and employment and safety equipment you need. Where this book shines, though, is in its thorough coverage of boat construction, hardware, systems, sails, and rigging. Very well illustrated throughout. 7" x 10", 468 pgs. Hardcover. 2000 Pub.
